Kudos to 24 Hour Fitness

Maybe it was mere coincidence that just two days after I wrote Endorphins: Reward for Attending "Boot Camp" and asked (okay, shouted) for 24 Hour Fitness to switch to a more balanced news station, I hopped on the treadmill for the usual lunch hour death-march to nowhere, and saw MSNBC on every third screen. Or not. But whatever prompted the switch - THANK YOU.

Really. Thank you. I like to think that you - yes, YOU with the Blackberry (I see you!!) are paying attention to your customers, and I wanted to let you know I noticed. And it made me smile all through that hot, sweaty, slightly painful 30 minute hike.

  1. Isn't it weird how things like that happen? Almost as if they're really listening/reading!

As a child, I was convinced that the waiters and waitresses kept hidden microphones under the tables because each time my parents would complain about something to themselves, suddenly a waitress appeared and full of apologies... ? Weird!

What I think is GREAT is that you hopped on the treadmill... Awesome!

  2. Oh, no - this isn't just one of those "I think they're listening" things. I can see them in my StatCounter logs -- every time I mention their products. ;)

Hi there, 24 Hour Fitness folks!! (You can comment, y'know - it's a friendly sort of place. Really. Even if I am not totally enamored of your bodybugg Web interface, I still love you guys.)

What I don't know is if they passed my request on to my local gym. That could just be coincidence (and I did ask the staff there, too, but was repeatedly told they'd been told not to change the channel).

    Whatever. I'm happy!

  4. Wow. Just wow.

Thank you, Vincent - not only for making me a satisfied customer, but for affirming that I am not insane and on some sort of ego trip. You WERE listening.

    That's just...cool. Really. Thank you.

  5. Hmmm ... always thought you were an activist at heart.

  6. Holly, and friends of Holly who are 24 Hour Fitness members:

I'd like to invite you to leave us your comments and feedback via the following club experience survey:

    www.24hourfitness.com/clubsurvey

We'd love to continue to hear about your experience and pass that along to your club manager. In addition, by completing your club experience survey you also qualify for a monthly drawing for 1 of 4 $250 gas cards.

Again, we greatly appreciate your feedback. Keep us posted on your Bodybugg progress! Way to go on what you've achieved so far.

  7. Oh, and who couldn't use a $250 gas card?? I'll do that, Vincent - and I'll pass this along to my workout buddy, K., who doesn't read my blog. (Wait, why would I pass that opportunity on to someone who doesn't read my blog?? LOL! Okay, okay, because I'm a nice person and K. gets more than her daily dose of me at the office.)

Thanks, too, for the encouragement. Oh - K. wanted me to blog about this, and I do plan to - but she really would like it if our club could continue to offer "Boot Camp" twice a week at 5:30 PM. Me, I'd like to see the Saturday morning sessions continue - gives me a good reason to get up and moving. But she lives across town and wants to go after work. We both loved the class, though. Amber and Stephanie are great trainers!

  8. I'm jealous. We don't have a 24 Hour workout center here. Of course my poor old body couldn't take a lot of the training and exercise, but a 24 hour indoor warm pool ... Now that would be bliss.

  9. There you go, Vincent - opportunity knocks! Not just an indoor pool, Viv - but a hot tub, sauna, and steam room, too! (Which reminds me, I've been underutilizing the facilities lately...)

Vincent, the other thing I wanted to thank you for is showing my kids that one voice CAN make a difference. That it IS worth writing to (or in this case, about) companies whose products you like (or would like to see improved). My son's very disappointed right now in RARware - they haven't written him back. :( But at least he sees that it can be worth the effort. (He's 12, by the way, and is also a member of 24 Hour Fitness.)

  10. You did good Holly. You spoke up and got results. And you didn't even have to raise your voice.

And, yes, all restaurant tables are bugged.
